1844 – FRIEDRICH NIETZSCHE. The philosopher, poet and philologist Friedrich Nietzche, considered one of the most important figures in Western philosophy, was born in the German municipality of Röcken. His work has had a profound influence on both Western history and culture.
1920 – MARIO PUZO. The American writer and screenwriter Mario Puzo, nicknamed the “mafia writer” and creator of the novel “The Godfather”, made into a film by Francis Ford Coppola, was born in Manhattan (New York, USA).
1923 – ITALO CALVINO. The Italian writer, Ítalo Calvino, one of the most relevant writers of the 20th century, was born in the Cuban city of Santiago de Cuba. Among his works stand out the novels El vizconde demediado, El barón rampante and El Caballero nonexistente, from the trilogy

1926 – MICHEL FOUCAULT. Born in the French city of Poitiers, the philosopher, sociologist, historian and psychologist Michel Foucault, whose work influenced the most important personalities of the social sciences and humanities of the 20th century.
1940 – THE GREAT DICTATOR. The film The Great Dictator, the first sound film directed by Charles Chaplin, in which he also starred, opens in New York City. It is a parody of Nazism in which Chaplin plays a double role, that of a Jewish barber who suffers racist persecution and that of the dictator “Hynkel” alluding to Adolf Hitler.
1984 – CESAR MILSTEIN. The Argentine biochemist and academic César Milstein obtained the Nobel Prize in Medicine together with the German George Kohler for his work on monoclonal antibodies. Milstein was one of the scientists exiled due to the dictatorship of General Juan Carlos Onganía.
nineteen ninety six – LEONARD SIMONS. At the age of 49, the radio and television host Leonardo Simons (Leonardo Simón Wowe), one of the most popular and successful in the media, commits suicide in Buenos Aires.
