Environmentalists denounce indiscriminate invasion of Caracas hills

The general secretary of the political organization La Causa R, Andrea Tavares, stated that her political organization joins the anger felt by environmentalists at the deterioration that Venezuela is suffering in this matter.

A group of organizations defending environmental rights protested this weekend against the rise in violations and damage to green areas in the country. From Montalban, activists denounced the indiscriminate invasion of the Caracas hills to “place them at the service of agriculture.”

Organizations such as Red Verde Caracas, Ecorina and Frente Norte Caracas, assured that the massive invasions of the Areas Under the Special Administration Regime (Abrae), are produced “with the support of the regime of Nicolás Maduro”, for which they mentioned the case of the Parque Algodonal Valley where invaders have taken part of its spaces, with the endorsement of the Ministry of the Environment, “to plant.”

“The national and metropolitan parks are being invaded by slashing and burning, an incipient agriculture that does not produce anything, what it causes is soil erosion,” they stated.

For their part, residents of Montalbán called on the authorities to take responsibility for the invasions, “especially the one in the Ruíz Pineda park that is eight years old.”

They indicated that they have gone to different government entities but have not received a favorable response, while they urged the mayor of Caracas, Carmen Meléndez, to heed the call of the residents of the Juan Pablo Segundo urbanization affected by the invasion.

The general secretary of the political organization La Causa R, Andrea Tavares, was also present at the meeting, who expressed her rejection of the setback in environmental matters that Venezuela is experiencing.

“Today, June 5, World Environment Day, La Causa R joins the anger felt by Venezuelan environmentalists due to the serious setback that the country is experiencing in environmental matters. We were the second in the world, after France, to have a Ministry of the Environment in 1977”, he said.

The leader specified that said involution, in environmental matters, is due to the affectation, deregulation, degradation of the Areas Under the Special Administration Regime by the administration of Nicolás Maduro.
