Citizens and ecological organizations reported this Saturday, December 21, the oil spill in the southern area of Las Capullanas beach, in the district of Lobitos, province of Talara, located in the Piura region.

“Oil spill alert in Talara, Piura! The Peruvian coast is once again suffering the consequences of a new environmental disaster. This incident puts the lives of various marine species at risk and directly affects artisanal fishermen in the area. those who depend on the sea for their livelihood,” said the NGO Oceana, dedicated exclusively to protecting the world’s oceans.
In this regard, the District Municipality of Lobitos confirmed that the Las Capullanas spa is affected by the environmental disaster. In addition, he indicated that the spill affects the ecosystem, economic activities and the quality of life of the population of the province of Talara.
Through a statement, the commune of Lobitos reported that Several species were found, such as turtles, crabs and octopuses, “covered in oil.”
For this reason, he asked to punish those responsible for the environmental disaster. Likewise, it requested the responsible company to take immediate action to contain and remedy the contamination in the area. “We ask the competent authorities to impose exemplary sanctions to prevent something like this from happening again”it reads.
Petroperu
For its part, the Petroperú company reported that after detecting the presence of hydrocarbons on Las Capullanas beach, located 10 kilometers north of the Talara refinery, Company personnel deployed a contingency and cleaning team to address the environmental emergency.
He specified in a statement that the day before, during maneuvers prior to the shipment of hydrocarbons on the Polyaigos ship, at the underwater terminal of the Talara refinerythe presence of hydrocarbons was detected while the displacement was carried out in the underwater line.
“The situation was immediately controlled, and, as a preventive measure, all operations were suspended to inspect the area near the terminal. Likewise, the corresponding cleaning activities began,” he assured.
OEFA
Meanwhile, the Environmental Assessment and Supervision Agency (OEFA) reported that it has already begun environmental supervision due to the presence of hydrocarbons in the area of the Maritime Terminal of the Talara Refinery.
“The supervision carried out by the OEFA, together with the Port Captaincy of Talara – Dicapi, will allow the verification of the facts of the environmental emergency. responsibility for the events and the impact generated”, he referred.
The OEFA indicated that it has scheduled the verification of first response actions by Petroperú, as well as the collection of samples of sea surface water and sediments for analysis.
