According to the MINAN report (2021), an average of 21 thousand tons of municipal waste is generated per day in Peru, which is equivalent to 0.8 kilograms of waste generation per person per day. In addition, more than half of the waste generated is organic matter, such as food or vegetables, 20% is usable inorganic and about 2% is recycled.
“Currently, recycling requires a profound change in mentality and a lot of commitment, since it involves everything from separating garbage to giving a second life to what is usually classified as waste.”, mentions Jorge Chávez, academic manager of SENATI.
Chavez, in the framework of the environment day which is celebrated on June 5, gives us a list of materials that can be recycled at home and at work, now that many people are doing remote and hybrid work.
recycling at home
- Plastics: containers, decorations, organizers, planters, cleaning material, or part of any material such as chairs, drawers and others. The containers of some products can be reused to store other types of objects, once disinfected and properly identified. Be very careful with containers that may contain chemical residues that can contaminate the stored objects.
- Organic: use of agro-industrial waste: compost, plant nutrients, infusions, essential oils, organic material for cleaning and disinfection, coagulants and others for water treatment.
- Cardboard, wood and metal: containers, organizers, part of other materials and equipment, with which artistic pieces, instruments or toys for the little ones can be created.
recycling at work
- Sheets: If there is a large number of printed sheets and one side is white, they can be used to take notes or memos.
- Plastics: to use them later as planters in the gardens, as organizers or donate them to companies that reprocess and/or reuse this type of material.
- Other materials: you can also recycle practice material, computer parts and electronic equipment, among others.
In any place where you are working or doing something, you can recycle it to have a positive impact on the environment. It is important to have a culture of segregation or separation of waste.
