Entrepreneurship will address investment in biodiversity in the seventh edition of Sustainable Earnings

Santo Domingo.- With the interventions of national exhibitors and two specialists from international entities as central keynote speakers, the seventh edition of Sustainable Earnings will be held on July 28, the seminar organized annually by Ecored and that, after a break of two years, in this 2022 it will be developed with the title “Invest in Biodiversity to protect our natural capital”.

The seminar will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., in the Great Ambassador room of the El Embajador hotel, with the participation of nearly 200 people and presentations by local and foreign specialists, including two international master dissertations that They will discuss sustainable financing for biodiversity conservation and the important global alliance for business and biodiversity, as well as a high-level panel on good business practices.

According to the organizers, this year Sustainable Gains wants to make a call to action to motivate investment in projects and infrastructures that guarantee the health of biodiversity, in order to preserve natural capital, essential to achieve sustainable development.

The directors of Ecored understand that biodiversity is an important natural supplier that provides essential services for human beings and constitutes the basis for many business and industrial activities, guaranteeing the proper functioning of ecosystems, their productivity and resilience.

For these reasons it was selected as this year’s main theme, and motivated by the fact that around 25% of animal and plant species face serious threats, the accelerated rate of species loss makes it necessary to actively participate in the implementation of policies, strategies and programs that guarantee the well-being of natural resources.

The opening words of Sustainable Earnings 2022 will be given by the president and executive director of Ecored, Mariel Bera and María Alicia Urbaneja, respectively.

It will continue with a high-level dialogue with Deputy Minister Milagros De Camps and Carol Franco, consultant and researcher, on “The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)” and “Scientific evidence of the impact of climate change on biodiversity loss.”

An hour later, the keynote address “Sustainable financing for biodiversity conservation” will be held by the UNDP senior expert; Marlon Flores; who is also a global advisor to UNDP in the Food and Commodity Agricultural Systems Unit (FACS) on issues of economic valuation, fiscal policy reform, investments and financing of biodiversity.

Also, a conversation with Thony Da Silva, managing partner of the firm Pizzolante and the speaker Marlon Flores, senior expert of the UNDP.

The event’s agenda includes a high-level panel on the experience of Ecored member companies, biodiversity and the tools and initiatives to incorporate into business.

At noon, Sustainable Earnings is planning the conference “The Global Alliance for Business and Biodiversity. Framework for Biodiversity post 2020 and the private sector”, by Bianca Lisboa Da Camara, Manager of the Business Commitment Program with the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity.

The seminar will close with words of thanks from María Alicia Urbaneja, executive director of Ecored.

About the international speakers

Marlon Flores is a graduate in public and social law from the Central University of Ecuador, has a master’s degree in economics, and is a global advisor to the UNDP in the Food and Agricultural Commodity Systems Unit (FACS) on valuation issues. economic reform, fiscal policy reform, investments and financing of biodiversity. He has designed, evaluated, and directed a wide variety of projects funded by the GEF, UNDP, World Bank, USAID, Danida, WWF, and other private donors. He is also a Policy Advisor at the Ecological Institute in Washington DC.

He was the conservation policy and finance advisor to The Nature Conservancy (TNC) at headquarters in Washington DC, responsible for the implementation of the Conservancy’s global protected area sustainable finance strategy, developed methodology and standards for financial planning using business principles for results-oriented accounting and worked with national water agencies in Latin America on ecosystem management, fiscal policies, and water tariffs.

While Bianca Lisboa Da Camara Brasil is manager of the Business Commitment Program with the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, a law graduate specializing in public and corporate communication management, she has been working for more than a decade with business and biodiversity and public politics.

She was co-founder of the Brazilian Business and Biodiversity Initiative and more recently led the work of Institutional Relations and Strategic Alliances for the Grupo Boticario Foundation. In her current position since 2019, Bianca oversees the Global Program on the engagement of economic sectors with the Convention on Biological Diversity and coordinates the Global Alliance for Business and Biodiversity. Bianca is a member of the Steering Committee of the UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development) BioTrade Initiative and co-chair of the ALIGN (Alignment of Accounting Approaches for Nature) initiative.
