The percentage of ventures established business sand reduced by five percentage points (from 17% in 2018 to 13% in 2021), according to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) 2021-2022 study.
It reveals that entrepreneurial discontinuation, measured as sale or abandonment of the business, pup from 8.6% in 2018, to 14.2% in the current measurement, which was largely due to the pandemic at 32 percent.
It stands out that in the country more than half of the new entrepreneurs and new employees perceived it more difficult or much more difficult to start a business (or self-employment) compared to last year, suggesting that the challenge of entrepreneurship has become increasingly complicated.
As the difficulty increases, the perception of future business growth is lower.
“Experts also perceive a high level of competition in the country, making it difficult for new companies to break through in the markets, due to the high concentration (monopoly) evidenced in a large part of the sectors, as well as the high cost of entry and the permanent blockades generated by the competition”, indicates the report.
It highlights that entrepreneurial activity currently corresponds to the behavior of the 42% of the adult population, 24 percentage points above the 2018 GEM measurement.
It indicates that most of these are self-employed, who had to resort to searching for that new job or job due to the consequences of the pandemic and, in general, do not hire others to carry out their initiative.
