The president of the Panamanian Association of Business Executives (APEDE), Temístocles Rosas, considered that an increase in the municipal tax considerably affects companies that operate in the capital city.
“Definitely for all companies, especially micro and small companies, an increase in municipal taxes affects, we have expressed our concern that this is not the time since we are in full recovery, there are many companies that are still in a survival stage looking for a way to maintain their economic activity, to keep their jobs, this is not the time for a tax increase and of that magnitude,” said Rosas.
Two corregimiento representatives denounced that this increase was not consulted and that they did it behind the backs of the citizens, pretending that it was a moratorium, when in reality it was an increase in municipal taxes.
Rosas also considered that a tax increase would not improve services for the population in the capital at all “I must admit that if this tax serves to improve taxpayer service, we could look at it from another perspective but we are not receiving an efficient taxpayer service, we see the problems of the license plates, we see the decoration of the city, we do not see that an increase translates into better service for the municipality, on the contrary we continue to have problems”.
