A married couple disappeared after suffering a tragic car accident when they were traveling aboard a vehicle that lost its way and fell into the turbulent waters of the Santa River, in the sector of the Cachucucho bridge, south of Huaraz (Áncash). Their son, a year and a half baby, was found dead by rescuers.
According to regional information obtained by this newspaper, the accident occurred at 4:30 pm last Thursday, February 17, when the family was traveling in the truck with license plate BHV-200.
However, after passing the Bedoya bridge and for reasons still under investigation, the unit lost control of the road and ended up falling to the bottom of the Santa River.
Hours after the mistake, the Police arrived at the scene and could only rescue the body of the infant, who was found in the back of the unit (subject to a seat belt). The vehicle was completely wrecked.
Meanwhile, the spouses Robert Danny Gonzáles Gómez and Heydy Cerna Mejía, were not located and remain missing. High Mountain troops, watchmen and villagers continue the search.
It was reported that the rescue teams resumed their work early today, Friday, February 18, and as of the closing of this note they have not been able to locate both people.
The couple was coming from Chancay to Huaraz and, apparently, a strong rain and wind storm would have caused the tragic mistake. The latter remains under investigation.
