Enjoy Travel Group Plans to Take Russian Tourists from Cuba to Mexico

Turistas en La Habana, Cuba

MIAMI, United States – The Spanish company Enjoy Travel Group announced its plans to take Russian tourists from Cuba to Mexico. According to the Russian Association of Tour Operators (ATOR), since 2024, this company has been offering services that allow tourists to “combine the original Cuba and the mysterious Mexico in a single trip.”

In a webinar for tourism professionals on September 12, Enjoy Travel Group presented its agreement with the Mexican hotel chain RCD Hotels to manage the transportation and accommodation of Russian tourists. The facilities being offered include well-known hotels like Hard Rock, UNICO 2087, Nobu, Residence Inn, and AVA Resort Cancun, according to ATOR.

Additionally, the Spanish company, based in Barcelona, provides charter flights connecting Madrid to Havana and offers tickets to other Caribbean destinations, such as Santo Domingo and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. It also has its own flights from the Island to the Mexican cities of Cancun and Merida, according to ATOR.

According to available information, the CEO of Enjoy Travel Group is Yuniel Mesa, son of René Mesa Villafaña, Cuba’s current Minister of Construction, and the grandson of Revolutionary Commander Guillermo García Frías.

The Spanish company has been closely linked to the promotion of tourism on the Island and has organized trips for influencers and celebrities to revitalize Cuba’s tourism market.

In July 2023, Luis Jiménez, Commercial Vice President of Enjoy Travel Group, revealed that several of Spain’s most popular influencers had arrived in Cuba for a one-week promotional visit.

As stated by Jiménez to the state news agency Latin Pressthe influencers arrived on the Island as part of a Fam Trip (familiarization program).

According to Enjoy Travel, the influencers’ trip and program in Cuba represented a new approach to promoting the Island as a tourist destination. Jiménez added that this strategy focused on “reengineering their products, unprecedented experiences, and unique adventures” to promote Cuba as a destination for art, culture, and heritage.

The Cuban regime often takes advantage of the popularity of foreign YouTubers and influencers to improve the country’s image and attract tourists, while the Cuban population suffers from the worst economic crisis in decades, the largest migration exodus in half a century, and increasing insecurity.

Ironically, while the government benefits from the fame of these “celebrities,” local influencers and YouTubers have been criminalized and sentenced to prison terms.
