For its part, Wood Mackenzie projects that the demand for copper will depend on the degree of global heating and applied climatic policies. If current trends are maintained, at least 4.4 million additional tons will be required in the next decade. However, if efforts to reduce emissions are more aggressive, demand could exceed 8 million tons, driven by the need for new sustainable technological infrastructure.
