Energy demand has increased 4.9% through July

XM, the operator of the National Interconnected System (SIN)reported that during the seventh month of the year, the demand for electricity had increased by 3.43%.

During this month, this was 6,565 GWh-month (gigawatt hours per month), which represents a growth of 3 points compared to the data for the same month of 2021, explained Jaime Alejandro Zapata Uribe, manager of the XM National Dispatch Center.

Not only this, in the first seven months the accumulated demand for energy showed a rise of 4.89%, according to the market operator’s report.

According to the report issued, in Guaviare and the east of the country was where there was the greatest increase in terms of consumption, being 13.2% and 10.9% respectively.

Among the economic activities with the highest growth in energy demand in the month of July compared to the same month in 2021, the exploitation of mines and quarries with an increase of 25.03% and transport and storage with 9.73%.

In fact, the market with the highest increase was the non-regulated one, whose growth rate was 7.35%, compared to a more moderate 1.86% presented by the regulated market (residential and refineries).

However, the annual demand for 2022 has already reached 5.43%, which shows a clear rebound from the 2.03% that was registered for the same month of 2021.
