Energy crisis: the affectation overcomes the prognosis and a unit is disconnected for 12 days

Basques in Cuba: generating units are broken again and the effects increase

This Tuesday the maximum affectation PLEADED BY THE ELECTRICAL UNION (UNE) It was 1462 MW in the night peak. However, again the prognosis was below reality.

Until 1821 MW amounted to the affectation at 8:30 pm, almost 400 MW above the official estimate and superior also to today, when a thermal unit came out for 12 days.

The UNE explains that what happened yesterday was due a “demand over the prognosis”, so tentatively there was no other output, that of Unit 6 of the Máximo Gómez del Mariel thermoelectric plant, occurred almost after the beak.

That plant It was disconnected at 8:36 pm By “turbine regulation pump”, but He could return to the national electrical system (SEN) about three hours later, minutes before midnight. This morning was still connected, according to the UNE part.

The one that will not be after Your disconnection this morning It is Unit 1 of the thermoelectric of Santa Cruz del Norte – also known as this Havana -, which will remain out for “approximately 12 days”.

This block came out “to clean the boiler components”, although in the part on Wednesday it did not appear between the units under maintenance.

Thermal limitations and lack of fuel and lubricants

With its disconnection, Unit 1 of Santa Cruz del Norte joins block 2 of that thermoelectric and 4 of Cienfuegos, in repairs for months, as well as that of 2 Felton, standing for several years as a result of a fire.

In principle, the number of units disconnected this morning was not high if compared to other recent moments. However, thermal limitations (554 MW) are high, which means that plants in operation operate significantly below their capacity.

To this we must add the 433 MW affected in the distributed generation due to lack of fuel and lubricants, none of which will be recovered today even in the night peak.

With this, although for the day the estimate of affectation is below 1000 MW, already at night the deficit will rise with the planned increase in demand. For this time strip, the predicted availability is 2010 MW, while the maximum affectation will be 1710 MW.

However, that figure could increase from any breakdown or the demand to go beyond the 3650 MW referred to by the UNE, which would result in longer and more simultaneous blackouts than the officially estimated.
