Energy and Mines seeks to facilitate oil exploration

The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) signed a contract for the realization of a geochemical study in basins terrestrial sedimentary and places with natural emanations of the Dominican Republic, with the purpose of carrying out oil explorations in order to attract investment to the country in the field of hydrocarbons.

The contract was signed by Antonio Almonte, Minister of Energy and Minesand Andrea Guglielmetti, Regional Manager for the Americas of Geolog Surface Logging DMCC, business winner of the bidding carried out for these purposes, reported the ministry in a press release.

He added that the process of International Competitive Bidding for the realization of this geochemical study began on October 14 and concluded “successfully” on November 29.

After the tender, the Tender Committee for hydrocarbon activities awarded the geochemical study to Geolog Surface Logging DMCC, for a amount of $498,500, with taxes included.

Energy and Mines explained that the study will carry out a geochemical campaign of collection of samples of rocks and fluids with hydrocarbons in terrestrial sedimentary basins; They will be characterized in the laboratory and later experts in the area of hydrocarbon exploration will perform their interpretation.

Perspectives on the study

On behalf of the Vice Minister of hydrocarbonsWalkiria Caamaño, were present during the signing Joan Fernández, director of Exploration, Import and Use of Hydrocarbons, and Nisael Dirocié, director of Exploration and Production of Hydrocarbons, explained the Benefits that the country will have with the study.

They explained that the investigation will support the efforts made by the Dominican Republic to increase the geological knowledge of sedimentary basins, thus reducing the uncertainty perceived by hydrocarbon exploration companies and, at the same time, supporting future competitive processes for assigning areas for oil and gas exploration and production in the country.

“The idea with this contract is to carry out a geochemical study in the sedimentary basins of the country. In it will be executed in a geochemical campaign in which a study of samples will be carried out; then these samples will be taken to a laboratory to carry out characterizations and these characterizations will give us an idea of how the geology of these basins is composed”, explained Dirocié.

These activities of exploration of hydrocarbonshe said, they will support the efforts that the Dominican Republic is making to increase the technical knowledge of the sedimentary basins that exist in the country.

Leading newspaper in the Dominican Republic focused on general news and innovative journalism.
