Ends extensive questioning of Vicente Bataglia in Deputies

Hoy Paraguay

The president of the IPS, Vicente Bataglia, was subjected this Tuesday to an interpellation in the Chamber of Deputies, due to the irregularities surrounding his administration.

This Tuesday the extraordinary session of the Chamber of Deputies was held, where in more than seven hours the interpellation was made to the president of the IPS, Vicente Bataglia, who answered the 44 questions that were part of the questionnaire prepared by the parliamentarians.

One of the questions was related to the complaints of alleged irregularities in the hiring and appointment process of health workers, as well as in regard to the hiring of cleaning services, this before publications that reveal alleged “arrangements” with the companies Potî SA and Alberto Palumbo Unipersonal.

Bataglia defended himself by assuring that job vacancy contests were promoted, resulting in the appointment of 404 officials. In this case, 1,380 applicants were registered but there were only 210 vacant salary categories, which is why many could not access this benefit, he mentioned.

In another section, mention is also made of the case of the Palumbo cook, Miguelina Brítez de Martin, who appeared as an alleged cleaner in the IPS, joining a long list of “mau cleaners” that was discovered through the investigation of the newspaper La Nation.

Bataglia was also approached about the recent case of alleged malpractice involving Don Ramón Samudio, who had both legs amputated at the IPS Central Hospital, despite the fact that initially only one of the members was listed.

In this regard, the president of the IPS said that the medical audit concluded that there was no malpractice in the case of the patient Ramón Samudio.

He explained that from the beginning both legs were compromised, but that on the day of the surgery there was no time to communicate the change of decision to the patient’s relatives.

From now on, the deputies have up to a maximum of 20 business days to define the vote of no confidence.
