End to the controversy: this is how they will see Messi in Argentina during the World Cup

The Argentine Government announced this Monday that the Albiceleste’s 2026 World Cup matches will be broadcast live on public radio and television signals, thus putting an end to the controversy unleashed in recent months after it was reported in the local press that, for the first time in more than half a century, the competition would be broadcast exclusively on private signals.

“Public Television and National Radio will broadcast all the matches of the Argentine National Team during the 2026 World Cup,” stated the Chief of Staff, Manuel Adorni, in your X social network account.

How will the World Cup broadcast be paid for?

The official clarified that “Thanks to a trade agreement, the cost of broadcast rights will not be met with tax money,” although official sources consulted by EFE did not provide further details about the terms of the agreement or the origin of the funds to pay for the transmission.

According to local media, this is a commercial scheme similar to the one implemented during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, under the management of President Alberto Fernández (2019-2023), in which production costs and broadcast rights were paid for with advertising revenues.

Following the dissemination of this Monday’s announcement, the president of Argentina, Javier Milei, He took the opportunity to attack journalists again by citing a note from a local media outlet that stated last August that public media would broadcast the competition.

The World Cup will take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026, with matches to be played in 16 cities in Mexico, United States and Canada.
