Enacted Law for the Protection of Assets Abroad

Enacted Law for the Protection of Assets Abroad

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, promulgated this Monday the Law for the Protection of Assets, Rights and Interests of the Republic and its Entities Abroad.

This, after it was sanctioned last Tuesday by the National Assembly (AN) unanimously.

“A new legal, legal, constitutional instrument to protect the assets that belong to the Venezuelan people,” said the Venezuelan head of state in his program With Maduro +.

The legal text contains two chapters and 11 articles, and its purpose is to protect the assets, rights and interests of the Republic and its entities, located abroad, against any act of alienation or disposition by persons who illegally intend to usurp them.

In this regard, the National President referred to the case of Citgo, which was kidnapped by the United States (USA) and recently handed over to ultra-right sectors.

Regarding this, Maduro pointed to Dinora Figuera, leader of Primero Justicia, to whom the US “delivered” Citgo. “They just deposited 346 million dollars from a bank account that belongs to the country, to finance the right-wing primaries,” Maduro said.

In the same way, he stated that among the benefits that Citgo delivers to the country, was the profits.

With his kidnapping in 2019 – he explained – “Citgo has dammed us with four billion dollars of annual profits”

“A gigantic, economic, social, moral, physical damage to Venezuelan society,” he said.

He also referred to the First Justice Party, which is still endorsing Julio Borges, despite the fact that there is evidence that he participated in the attack against him in 2018.

“They pretend to be a political group in the country, when a murderer is in their ranks, we have the evidence that he participated in August 4, for them there are good and bad terrorists,” he explained.

For his part, the president of the Domestic Policy Commission of the National Assembly, Diosdado Cabello, said that this legal instrument complements the Asset Forfeiture Law, “where the State can recover for the people any ill-gotten property that originates corruption, drug trafficking, treason and other crimes.

“The fundamental objective of this law is to protect any asset or interest that the country or its institutions have anywhere in the world. It comes up because of the number of abuses, sanctions and threats against our country, some of them specified, including the more than 30 billion dollars that have been stolen from us,” Cabello pointed out.
