As of Monday, January 31, the replacement work of the asphalt layer of the marine section of the South Corridor will begin, specifically in the direction of Paitilla, as part of the preventive maintenance work, reported the National Highway Company (ENA).
He specified that the works are part of the preventive maintenance plan that is carried out throughout the year, along the 66 kilometers that comprise the North, South and East Corridors, with the aim of maintaining the optimal state of the roads under its administration. , thus providing a quality service and above all safe.
The works in the direction towards Paitilla are carried out from 4:00 pm to 5:00 am, in a period of one week; time in which traffic will remain in one lane and the road will be duly signposted. The funds invested in these works come entirely from the proceeds of the Panapass tolls, as reported.
According to the infrastructure manager of ENA, Osvaldo Campbell, the contracting company in charge of the work has had to overcome and resolve factors from logistics such as delays in the importation of raw and sanitary materials such as the increase in covid-19 infections.
“In the first 800 meters towards Paitilla, the scarification of the existing asphalt layer has already been completed. By February 2022 the repair of deteriorated slabs, sealing of joints and cracks will have been completed,” said Campbell.
He announced that the preventive maintenance plan for the marine section of the South Corridor will continue with the replacement of the bridge’s expansion joints, which consists of the removal of 18 expansion joints, the preparation of the reservation followed by the installation of the new expansion joint. dilation that will be done at night to impact the vehicular flow as little as possible.
“This segment of the South Corridor, because it is in an environment of high salinity, requires constant maintenance to prevent deterioration, which would put the safety of drivers at risk and is precisely what we want to avoid,” he remarked.
