During the plenary session of this March 3, the Plenary of Congress approved the formation of an investigative commission to determine alleged responsibilities for the effects on human rights, during protests.
The Avanza País congresswoman, Adriana Tudela, presented a reconsideration in this regard, but it was rejected with 58 votes in favor, 38 against and one abstention.
Congress admits questioning of Interior Minister Vicente Romero to debate
The full Congress accepted the initiative with 47 votes in favor, 37 against and 11 abstentions. The spokesman for Popular Renewal, Jorge Montoya, indicated that his bench also filed a motion for interpellation against the Minister of the Interior, Vicente Romero.
The session of the Plenary of Congress begins
The president of Congress, José Williams, began the plenary session and, in this way, the second legislature begins in the context of the political crisis that requests the advancement of elections.
The session will also discuss the interpellation requests presented against the Minister of the Interior, Vicente Romero, with the aim of having him answer “about the abusive and disproportionate acts of repression by the National Police, both in the streets of Lima and at the University National Mayor of San Marcos”.
José Williams also indicated that in plenary it is planned to designate the members of the special investigative commission to determine political responsibilities behind those who died during the protests that have been registered in various regions of the country since December 7, 2022, which was approved last January 12.
Another issue that will be addressed will be the formation of a special multi-party commission for the prevention of disaster risks that may occur in the national territory.
