MADRID, Spain.- The Cuban Electric Company will celebrate the 503rd anniversary of the founding of Havana with a light show, in the midst of the energy crisis for which the Government has subjected Cubans to endless blackouts.
“To celebrate the 503rd anniversary of the town of San Cristóbal de La Habana, Galiano street, as we are used to, will show a light show that simulates the artistic lighting of the Italian city of Torino,” the entity said through Facebook. .
Given the logical indignation unleashed in Cubans, the publication was eliminated. In its place was an image of the capitol, fully illuminated.
However, the information continues on the official Facebook page Havana Channel.
“Workers of the Electric Company of Havana prepare the system of lights on Galiano street, to celebrate, this Wednesday, the 503rd anniversary of the capital. The show simulates the artistic lighting of the Italian city of Torino”, reads the post, which also shares images of workers from the Electric Union installing the lighting.
“It is incredible that in the midst of the situation we are experiencing, this waste of energy is made and yet the annoying blackouts continue. Many lights and the streets are still dirty, the buildings in terrible condition, the moloteras in the stores, the merolicos in the portals of that same street with outrageous prices with products of dubious origin or reselling those of the stores in MLC. At least I have nothing to celebrate.” (Alice Garcia)
“It is disrespectful, the rest of the country suffering extended blackouts and Havana squandering, once again it is true that Havana is Havana and the rest are green areas.” (Maria Victoria Concepcion Valido)
“It seems totally disrespectful to me with the country’s deficit situation and the critical situation that we are going through at least in the East. Worse that they make it public on the networks. Incredible!”. (Hindira Mastrapa)
“In the midst of a serious energy crisis national and to top it off imitating an artistic lighting that has nothing to do with what is commemorated”. (Jose Antonio Solana Fernandez)
The above are just some of the hundreds of comments on the Havana Channel publication, made by Cubans who, for months, have spent more time without power than with it.
