The country’s tourism sector has recovered 100% of formal jobs and has surpassed the jobs generated in the years prior to the covid-19 pandemic.
The data was released yesterday by the Minister of Tourism, David Colladowho cited that as of July of this year the sector had 173,345 formal jobs, a figure that exceeds the jobs in 2019, when the number was 172,505.
Where the sector has had a small decrease has been in the companies that work for tourism, since these have dropped to 6,381, this year, when last year they were 6,873 in the same period.
Collado offered the data by presenting the statistics of arrival of tourists in July, where 735 thousand visitors arrived in the country, with which the DR has more than 4 million tourists so far this year.
He indicated that with this new achievement it is projected to close the year beating for the first time the figure of more than 7 million tourists, and said that this arrival of non-resident visitors in July 2022 represents 10% more than July 2018, 24% per above July 2019 and 30% above the same month of 2021.

David Collado added that in addition to 734 thousand visitors who arrived in July by air, another 98,389 cruise passengers arrived in the country last month.
“We did it again. We achieved an extraordinary month in the arrival of tourists to the Dominican Republic”Collado said when referring to the record number reached in the month of July in the arrival of visitors in relation to the same month of previous years. “July 2022 becomes, together with December 2021, the only months in history in which we exceeded 700 thousand tourists in one month,” he added.
The United States continues to lead as the source country for tourists, followed by Canada, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Spain, Cuba and the United Kingdom.
Minister Collado reiterated that this year will close with the arrival of more than 7 million tourists, “thus achieving the best year of tourism in its history, thanks to the vision that has been implemented from the State by President Luis Abinader, as well as as the cooperation of the private sector and all the collaborators of the ministry”.
