The French PresidentEmmanuel Macron declared the Olympic Games open from Paris, delivering the formal address on Friday, with the Eiffel Tower in the background, which officially marks the opening of the Olympic fortnight.
“I proclaim open the Games of Paris celebrating the XXXIII Olympiad of modern times”declared the president during the opening ceremony, after speeches by the head of the Paris 2024 organization, Tony Estanguet, and the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach.
“The next 16 days, you will be the best version of humanity (…) until August 11th we will live every second with you,” said Tony Estanguet in his speech after raising the flag.
And although “discrimination and conflict will not cease” With the Games, the athletes are proof of “how beautiful humanity is when it comes together,” he added.
“From now on, Paris 2024 belongs to you!” the former Olympic canoeing champion exclaimed.
“I invite the whole world, let’s celebrate together “With all the athletes, the joy of sport. Have faith in the future. Long live the Olympic Games! Long live France!” declared Thomas Bach.
