Emilio Frías, director of El Niño and La Verdad, denounces censorship against him

el niño y la verdad, Emilio Frías, Cuba, censura

MADRID, Spain.- The musician Emilio Frías, director of the popular orchestra El Niño y la Verdad, denounced this Thursday that the group is being censored after his return to Cuba, on October 9, from a tour of Mexico.

Frías explained that since then they have suspended concerts that had been scheduled for more than three months and have moved previously recorded television programs from the billboard.

“We have had a pitched battle and it has been an odyssey to be able to present ourselves on the Island, and even so we have not had a result, we have not had a clear and exact answer as to what is happening, although I can imagine it (… Although they tell me , in the Cuban Institute of Music and the Ministry of Culture that I am not prohibited from working or appearing on Cuban Television, the reality that I am living is completely different”, the composer pointed out in his social networks.

“It is evident that there is a non-official order that determines this or that some culture directors are awarding themselves and that is much worse, because there your life and your career remain in the hands of God knows,” he added.

Emilio Frías also commented that until now he had waited, remaining “cautious”, but that he decided to make the complaint because there are 23 salaries (corresponding to the members of his group”), “23 families who are being left without working”.

“In this way I tell everyone that yes, I am experiencing censorship, because this has no other name (…) and I will not beg for something that belongs to me in my own right, playing in Cuba is a right that I earned and I The people gave it. I will not stoop to apologize or retract because I have done nothing but sing “The Truth”, my Truth and that of many which does not necessarily have to be everyone’s, but my ideas are clear and genuine, my art it is pure and sincere and my love for “La Patria” and “Mi Gente” is unquestionable, so much so that here I am, in Cuba, with my Cubans, at possibly the most difficult moment in the history of this country,” he declared. cold.

On September 10, the group was censored while offering a concert at the Galiano House of Music.

When Frías spoke to the public about the censorship to his theme “Cambio”, security agents of the place turned off the audio.

Before the repressors decided to end the concert, Frías told the public: “Maybe I could be wrong, but my mistake is mine. I am not saying that, as I think, many people think. I haven’t said anything, they’ve put together all this here… And if they’re going to do that, really, I tell them, if they’re going to get like that, don’t invite me anymore. Don’t call me anymore, and get me out of everywhere. Get me off the TV, get me off the radio. The only place they won’t be able to get me out of is from the hearts of all Cubans.”
