MIAMI, United States. – After several postponements caused by the devastating fires in California, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of Hollywood finally revealed, this Thursday, the candidates in the 23 categories of the 97th edition of the Oscar Awards. The ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, March 2 at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, hosted by comedian Conan O’Brien.
The great highlight of the list falls on the French film Emilia Perezdirected by Jacques Audiard and starring Karla Sofía Gascón, Zoe Saldaña and Selena Gomez, which earned 13 nominations. The film thus set a record for a production not spoken in English. Behind are located Wicked and The brutalistboth with 10 candidates.
The Spanish Karla Sofía Gascón made history by becoming the fourth performer from her country to achieve this distinction and, furthermore, the second actress originally from Alcobendas to achieve it, after Penelope Cruz.
The presenters of the expected list were the Australian Bowen Yang, who acts in Wicked and is a member of the cast of Saturday Night Liveand American actress Rachel Sennott, known for her roles in Shiva Baby, Bodysuits Bodysuits Bodysuits and Bottoms.
The awards season had been left in suspense when the Academy announced the postponement of the announcement of the nominees and the cancellation of the traditional nominees luncheon at the Beverly Hilton hotel, due to the fires affecting the west coast of the United States. Likewise, the delivery of the scientific-technical Oscar Awards, originally scheduled for February 18, was postponed.
