MADRID, Spain.- The crisis that the Health System in Cuba is going through seems to have no end, agree several doctors from different regions of the Island, interviewed by Radio Television Martí.

Dr. Roberto Serrano, a doctor in the Songo La Maya municipality, in Santiago de Cuba, reported that this week he went to look for water at a pharmacy for a penicillin injection (penicillin that he “could get”) and there was none.

“A simple thing like that, and all the medicines are missing. In hospitals there is absolutely nothing,” said the specialist. Because of this situation, Cuba seems “just another country in a state of war,” he added.

He also assured that on many occasions emergency surgeries have to be rescheduled until the patient’s relatives manage to get what is necessary to do it.

For his part, the doctor Eduardo Cardet, a resident of Velasco, Holguín, referred to the “increased lack of medicines, supplies of all kinds, the deterioration of health facilities, both in primary care and in the hospital network , of the lack of qualified personnel, of medical and paramedical personnel, of specific specialists…”.

While the traumatologist Ramón Zamora, from the City of Holguín, referred to the shortage even to perform cures.

“There is hardly any alcohol and iodine, there are no probes either, hardly any syringes. There is a very large deficit of stretchers and wheelchairs for patients who arrive with some motor condition, ”she explained in this regard.

Just as he declared that all infections are being treated with rocephin, since it is the only one there is, although it is not the one required.

This panorama is further aggravated by the unsanitary conditions in which most of the hospitals are found throughout the Island and the crisis of health personnel. Unfortunately, as the doctors pointed out, this situation seems to have no end.
