Emergency in Pitalito: ACPM spill forces water to be supplied with tank trucks

60% of the population has been served in the different communes.

In Pitalito, Huila, The emergency continues after the ACPM spill in the creek El Cedro that flows into the Guachicos River, main source of supply for the municipal aqueduct, causing the suspension of the service that has already been completed for four days.

From the moment of the emergency, in a tireless fight, the members of the volunteer fire department of Pitalito tried to control the emergency and prevent it from expanding. The transport company did not provide help and was present, more than six hours after the vehicle overturned and spilled the ACPM.

Today in Pitalito you can see the citizens with large buckets, jars and pots, in order to be able to store water at home for basic needs; The tank trucks travel through the different communes and the citizens are supplied.

Although some institutions such as health centers, Inpec, public forces and other essential points have been prioritized, a water distribution schedule was established in tank trucks, which allows citizens to prepare with buckets and elements to store water.

In the communes, central points were selected to facilitate access, to carry out delivery in the afternoon and evening. Isabel Hernández, head of the Disaster Risk Management Office in Huila, indicated that, “in coordination tasks that are very important, assistance and accompaniment for decision-making by the Municipal Mayor’s Office and the Municipal Risk Management Council.

At this moment, the environmental contingency on the ravine where this hydrocarbon fell, is being carried out with all the rigor of the contingency plan and let’s say that work is being done in that situation. “What worries us is the population that currently needs drinking water in the urban area of ​​the municipality.”

They are approximately 140,000 people who require the liquid and the Mayor’s Office has made a contingency plan to be able to supply the liquid. At this moment, 60% of the population is being served and support is required from the departmental government to be able to have eight tank trucks and serve the population that requires supply through this route.

In the municipality, the Pitalito Health Secretariat formed a technical team made up of the epidemiologist, the head of Public Health, the auxiliary health technician and the leader of Emergencies and Disasters, along with their professional support team. The public companies of Pitalito responded to the emergency and began the total cleaning of the storage tanks and little by little it is expected to overcome the environmental emergency.
