Emergency in Bello, Antioquia: 450 families were affected by the rains

The water does not give respite in Antioquia. The heavy rains recorded in the department continue to affect roads, homes and claim the lives of people. To date there are 51 deaths registered due to events associated with the winter wave so far this year.

The last emergency was recorded in the municipality of Bello, north of the Valle de Aburrá, where 450 families were affected by the overflow of the La García creek and other tributaries, that generated floods in the sectors of Playa Rica, La Guayana, El Cairo, Panamericano, the Chinese neighborhood and what is known as El Tapón.

Although no human losses were recorded, the families had no choice but to see how the water destroyed their belongings.

In the characterization process, the municipal administration ordered the definitive evacuation of 20 homes, in the sector known as Chinatown, for structural damage after the emergency. For its part, in Cairo there are 32 homes that have a definitive evacuation order.

In turn, in the sector of Playa Rica, on the upper part, better known as La Escuelita, there are nine homes evacuated and four more preventively. While, in the part low, there are 15 properties evicted.

Bello’s Secretary for Risk Management and Disaster Attention, Wber Zapata Lopera, explained that, 25 families completely lost their homes.

“We have 25 homes that have had a definitive evacuation due to structural failure, all these people have completely lost their homes,” said the official.

With the support of engineers and yellow machinery, debris and mud removal work is being carried out, specifically in the most critical sector, El Tapón. Nevertheless, The cleaning work has been made difficult by the rains recorded during the day.

They reached the municipality humanitarian aid for the affected families, who were given cleaning kits, food and a rental subsidy, as reported by Óscar Andrés Pérez Muñoz, mayor of Bello.

We are going to deliver humanitarian aid to nearly 450 families who have been affected by this emergency, we have the characterization of the affected points. We will also hand out rental subsidies so that their lives can return to normal,” he explained.

For more than 20 hours, officials have attended the emergency recorded at dawn this Saturday. With the support of 350 collaborators from the municipal administration, relief agencies and disaster relief, They attend from 1:30 am the contingencies that occurred in six sectors of the municipality.
