Canteens will provide daily food and basic support to vulnerable residents of Paratebueno and Medina while their recovery progresses.
The UNGRD began the operation of two emergency soup kitchens in Parategood and Medinain Cundinamarca, as part of the humanitarian actions derived from the magnitude 6.5 earthquake registered on June 8. The feeding points were enabled with the objective of responding to the needs of the affected population and giving priority to those who are in vulnerable conditions.
Each dining room is designed to benefit more than 250 peopleespecially older adults, children, women heads of household and inhabitants in extreme poverty. Access to the service is aimed primarily at those listed in the Single Registry of Victims (RUD)a mechanism that allows identifying the population affected by the emergency. Operation will be carried out with the support of local personnel, which facilitates sustainability and strengthens community participation.

Dining room operation
The dining rooms will operate during 90 daysperiod established as part of the immediate response plan in the two municipalities. This measure seeks to ensure the provision of hot food portions to those who face greater difficulties after the earthquake. The director of the UNGRD, Carlos Carrillopointed out that the strategy is part of the first interventions aimed at guaranteeing food and contributing to the recovery of the affected communities.
The spaces were implemented under the guidelines of the Resolution 0382 of 2025a rule that establishes the conditions and parameters for the operation of these emergency canteens. For their start-up, they were provided with supplies and equipment that allow the preparation of balanced menus. Food planning included technical advice on nutrition and health, in order to ensure basic quality standards in the provision of the service.
The feeding actions are developed in parallel with the process of reconstruction of ParateBueno and Medina, which is advancing on several fronts. The definition of the designs of the new earthquake-resistant homes that will replace the structures affected by the earthquake. In addition, resources were secured for 53,000 million pesos intended to finance the construction of the first 368 housing units that will be part of the recovery plan.
With these measures, the two municipalities advance in the initial phase of recoverywhich combines immediate attention to food with preparations for the reconstruction of the affected infrastructure.
The temporary operation of the soup kitchens is presented as a complementary tool while the rehabilitation processes are carried out and the planned investments are carried out to restore the living conditions of the affected population.
