Next Wednesday (8), the attempted coup against democracy in Brazil turns two years old. The memory of the acts of attack on the sovereignty of the people, which caused damage to the physical and intangible heritage of the Three Powers, will be remembered by the recovery of destroyed works of art and a symbolic embrace of democracy with the participation of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
According to a note released by Palácio do Planalto, an extensive program is planned to mark the date, in Brasília, starting at 9:30 am, when the return of works of art destroyed in attacks by Bolsonarist groups and now restored will begin.
21 pieces will be returned to public propertyincluding a 17th century clock, a gift from the French Court to Dom João VI, which became a symbol of anti-democratic acts. The part will be delivered to Switzerland.
Most of the works of art were recovered by specialized teams at Palácio da Alvorada itself, with the exception of the clock, which was repaired in Switzerland at no cost to the Brazilian government. The centuries-old piece, together with a Portuguese amphora in glazed ceramic, would have required greater effort to recover, due to the difficulty and delicacy of the repairs.
Screen The Mulatas
The screen The Mulatasby Di Cavalcanti, will return to the wall of the Noble Hall of Palácio do Planalto, in an act of unveiling the work of art, which will mark an educational activity during the program. Students from the Heritage Education Project will deliver replicas of the painting and also the Portuguese amphora to President Lula.
The ceremony includes speeches and the descent of the Planalto Palace ramp by authorities from the Three Powers for a symbolic embrace of democracy, with the participation of the population. The Workers’ Party provided a popular registration channel for those interested in participating in the ceremony. Representatives of civil society entities, religious segments and unions are expected at this event.
