The Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development reported that this Sunday at 6:00 p.m. the Casa Rosada, the National Congress and the headquarters of that portfolio will be illuminated in green on the occasion of the celebration of World Environment Day.
It is an initiative of the national environmental portfolio to raise awareness about caring for the common hometo which other buildings will be added in different provinces of the country.
Proposed by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and held every June 5 since 1973World Environment Day is a convening day for environmental disclosure, said the Ministry led by Juan Cabandié in a statement
“World Environment Day is the largest global platform for environmental disclosure and is celebrated by millions of people around the world. Each year it is sponsored by a different country, and in this 2022 the host and organizer is Sweden”, recalled the United Nations (UN) on its official site.
“Earth faces to a triple planetary emergency: the climate is warming too fast for people and nature to adapt; habitat loss and other pressures on nature have led to an estimated 1 million species being threatened with extinction; and pollution continues to poison our air, land and water,” the UN said.
The organization noted that “Getting out of this quagmire means transforming our economies and societies to make them more inclusive, fairer and more respectful of nature. We must move from harming the planet to healing it.”
This year, the World Environment Day campaign is celebrated with the slogan #OneEarth, “which aims to raise awareness of these three crises, while encouraging and promoting the celebration, protection and restoration of our planet through of various activities,” the UN pointed out.
