Santo Domingo.- In an act that was attended by President Luis Abinader and his wife, Raquel Arbaje, the Embassy of Spain in the Dominican Republic awarded the singer -songwriter Juan Luis Guerra with the entrustment of the Royal Order of Isabel la Católica.
In the activity were Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez, the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Víctor -ito- Bisonó, and Roberto Ángel Salcedo, Minister of Culture, among other personalities.
Ambassador Antonio Pérez-Hernández highlighted Juan Luis Guerra as one of the greatest exponents of Dominican culture and one of the country’s greatest international projection personalities.
He added that he is one of the most recognized Latin artists in recent decades, with a projection that goes beyond music, constituting a real sociocultural phenomenon.
He said that his relationship with Spain is narrow and long data, being one of the most beloved Latin artists in that country, who has always welcomed him with admiration and affection.
The Government and the people of Spain recognized the contribution of war to the dissemination of language and culture in Spanish in the world and how much they have done to unite two peoples through their music.
“For these reasons, His Majesty King Felipe VI granted him the entrustment of the prestigious order of Isabel la Católica, as a symbol of the admiration, respect and gratitude of Spain,” he said.
On his side, Guerra thanked the honor of his award and the presence of authorities and other assistants.
He referred his artistic career in Spain and how the people had welcomed their music, with a affectionate evocation to Alejandro Sanz, Joan Manuel Serrat and Joaquín Sabina.
He dedicated the award to his wife Nora, his children Paulina, Jean Gabriel and Ana; To his manager Amarilys, his band 4.40 and family, friends and fans.
