MADRID, Spain.- The Embassy of Mexico in Cuba suspended its consular services that require payment, among which are the legalization of documents and interviews to obtain a visa.
The decision is due to a resolution (Instruction 1 of 2022) issued on June 2 by the Central Bank of Cuba (BCC) that prevents transfers abroad from the Cuban peso account of embassies and consulates, explained the headquarters consulate through Twitter.
The suspension of services It applies from this June 9 and will remain “until further notice,” added the Embassy of Mexico in Cuba.

What does Instruction 1 of the Central Bank of Cuba state?
As of June 10, 2022, from the accounts in Cuban pesos of the embassies and consulates, there are no transfers to accounts in freely convertible currency, nor payments abroad.
Before June 10, 2022, the embassies and consulates, holders of bank accounts in Cuban pesos, decide whether to convert their balance totally or partially to freely convertible currency, applying the exchange rate in force on the day of the operation.
As of June 10, 2022, in the accounts in Cuban pesos of the embassies and consulates, cash deposits of freely convertible currency are accepted, except US dollars, for consular collections, if so determined by the holder. In these cases, the bank credits the account in Cuban pesos applying the current exchange rate on the day of the operation.
Cuban state legal entities holding CL accounts make payments for consular services to bank accounts in freely convertible currency of embassies and consulates, accompanying the payment instrument with the corresponding liquidity letter, CL. This requirement is not necessary if the embassy or consulate accepts the direct payment in the account in Cuban pesos.
