Embassy of Japan donates a new Ultrasound Echocardiograph to the Children’s Hospital

The Children’s Hospital and the cardiovascular surgery team received a check for b/.55,400 from the Japanese Embassy through the J. Thomas Ford Gift of Life Foundation for the purchase of an Ultrasound Echocardiograph .

The Vice Minister of Health Ivette Berrío, indicated that with this equipment the installed capacity in this hospital will be strengthened, providing an effective diagnosis and treatment of pediatric cardiology diseases.

He specified that this contribution is delivered by signing a contract and delivering a check for non-reimbursable financial assistance for community projects for human security developed by the Embassy of Japan.

“We are all very grateful, we believe and we are convinced that it will reinforce the study and diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases in uninsured Panamanian children,” remarked Vice Minister Berrío.
Hideo Fukushima, Ambassador of Japan in Panama, supported the interest of this nation in contributing to the goals and strengthening for Panama to achieve sustainable development, impacting Panamanian children on this opportunity.

For his part, the medical director of the Children’s Hospital, Paul Gallardo, mentioned that each year in Panama approximately 440 children are born with congenital heart disease, half of whom need surgery or other treatment to survive.

“This is sophisticated, high-tech equipment that can be moved to different rooms without major complications and continue advancing in diagnoses and treatment in this way,” Gallardo pointed out.

The ceremony was also attended by the Chancellor of the Republic Jenaina Tewaney Mencomo. and the Fundación Obsequio de Vida Juan Carlos Canavaggio.
