The Italian Embassy reported on social networks that “all the representative institutions of the Italian community in Venezuela” are officially disassociated from the health center that opened its doors in 2022.
The Italian embassy in Caracas officially announced in a statement, dated March 16, that all the institutions that represent the Italian community are completely “detached and disconnected” from the foundation of the Italian hospital in Venezuela.
The decision was made after the Governing Council of the Italian Hospital Foundation of Venezuela, appointed by the Promotion Committee on October 26, 2021, without having consulted the Promotion Committee itself, the embassy and the general consulate in Caracas, made changes extraordinary in the Statute.
The Italian Hospital in Venezuela began its operations on January 31, 2022 in Caracas. It was announced as a joint project with the European Institute of Oncology in Milan, the Italian Red Cross and the Venezuelan Association against Cancer. Then, the Italian business manager in Venezuela, Plácido Vigo, was present at its inauguration; the Consul General in Caracas, Nicola Occhipinti, together with the president of the Board of Directors of the organization, Vincenzo Di Martino.
the italian agency ANSA adds that from sources of the organizing committee, he learned that the attempts to revoke the “provisions adopted that are illegitimate and null, for not having the mandatory opinion of the consul general” were in vain.

Among other things, it refers to “the increase in the fee to become a founding member (from $500 to $3,000); the limitation of the number of founding members, with the right to speak and vote, to 50; the extension of the mandate of the Governing Council from 2 to 5 years, extendable for a second term, the repeal of various bodies, including the Promotion Committee and the General Assembly of Members, and the attribution to the same Governing Council of the condition of maximum authority of the foundation”.
According to the information cited, a new statute that “suppresses the existence of the General Assembly of founding members and benefactors as the highest authority of the Foundation, naming the members of the Board of Directors in its place”, was the cause of the distancing.
