Embassy denounces Huanca's disinformation campaign in Spain

The Embassy of Peru in Spain denounced a systematic “disinformation campaign” that Lourdes Huanca, operator of the former coup leader, has been carrying out in that country and self-styled president of the National Federation of Peasant, Artisan, Indigenous, Native and Salaried Women of Peru (Fenmucarinap).

Huanca has been -for several days- holding interviews with the media and meetings with authorities in Europe, in the midst of the serious political crisis that Peru is going through and the acts of violence that have put police stations, judicial headquarters, airports, camps in check miners, among others.

The embassy remarked in an extensive statement that Huanca is “misrepresenting” the truth about what happened in Peru, and clarified that Castillo carried out a coup d’état – which decreed the dissolution of Congress, the intervention of the justice system and the Constitutional Court -; and a constitutional succession originated as a result.

“Some media outlets have echoed Mrs. Huanca’s false statements, such as that Pedro Castillo was ‘threatened or kidnapped’ to stage his own coup; that Congress is the one who has delivered said coup; or that the Peruvian State could harbor some interest in violating its integrity, all statements without any support,” she remarked.

embassy.

Peru – through this diplomatic mission – urged the media, authorities and public opinion “to contrast the statements” of Huanca, “in order not to fall into a false narrative that seeks to distort the unfortunate events that are actually occurring in the Peru”.

“Ms. Lourdes Huanca, free to give her opinion, is linked to the personal circle of Pedro Castillo, whose family and relatives benefited during his administration,” the embassy remarked.

Huanca – a regular visitor to the Government Palace and ministries in the Castillo era – came to the fore when she accompanied the investigated sister of the first lady, Yenifer Paredes, to surrender to justice within the framework of the corruption investigations. And although she presents herself as a social leader, in her native Puno she is branded as unknown.

In addition, Huanca’s son was favored with contracts in the Castillo government.

POSITIONS

In dialogue with Perú21, former Foreign Minister Miguel Ángel Rodríguez Mackay considered the embassy’s response important and stressed that “all missions abroad must follow the same line so that it is known exactly what is happening in Peru”; not only limiting the declarations to a single person but addressing the international community in unison.

“The embassies are our bodies for the country’s foreign policy and are obliged to transfer the exact image of the country; the Ministry of Foreign Affairs should have prepared a guide for all missions a long time ago and have a single speech that strengthens international policy, ”he remarked.

This, he added, so that Peruvians or foreigners do not continue to “distort the truth and, second, prevent authorities from other countries from continuing to get involved in the Peruvian jurisdiction and our internal affairs.”

Meanwhile, Congressman José Cueto, a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, remarked that Huanca “is a kind of ambassador” for the former president, since she left the country “after the failed Castillo coup and is traveling throughout Europe” with that speech. And she wouldn’t be the only one.

“The government has to become strong in this field, not only because of what this lady is doing, but also with those who are inside South America trying to pressure the government internationally,” Cueto remarked.

Former congressman Natale Amprimo pointed out that Huanca’s speech “is very similar to what a group of people close to former President Castillo have been repeating, giving absolutely false information and seeking to create a distorted image of what is happening in the country.”

“Here you have to understand that there are people not only from Peru but who belong to a kind of international group whose objective is to weaken Peru’s institutions and force a Constituent Assembly to be generated on the basis of violence,” referred.

KEEP IN MIND:

  • The Peruvian embassy in Spain recalled that Boluarte proposed to Congress “the cut of his presidential term and the advancement of general elections to April 2024”, which was already approved in the first vote.
  • “Groups of people seeking to increase chaos through the exercise of indiscriminate violence for political purposes have joined the legitimate and legal peaceful mobilizations,” he remarked.
