Agents from the Elite Division of the Rio Municipal Guard, who will provide armed security on the streets, are receiving practical and theoretical training from the Public Security Secretariat (Senasp) and the Federal Highway Police (PRF). The mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes, visited this Tuesday (21) the Training Academy in Irajá, in the north of the city.
“We want a Force that has the capacity to combat crime, that respects the citizen, that takes the appropriate approach, but that acts with great firmness and preparation. The partnership with the PRF provides the Municipal Force with higher quality training. The Municipal Force will not be responsible for combating organized crime and combating areas dominated by drug trafficking or militias. It will play a role in combating robberies and theft in the neighborhoods, helping the work of the Civil and Military police,” stated the mayor.
Students in the first class of the Elite Division are undergoing training in a 440-hour course, with subjects ranging from weapons, shooting and approach techniques to crisis management, human rights and training with body cameras, in addition to police experience workshops and simulations that reproduce real situations of street activities.
The course is preparatory and eliminatory, and the first class is expected to conclude in the first week of November. Only after passing all stages will students be officially incorporated into the Municipal Force. Soon after, the second group of those approved in the selection process will enter the course, also in November.
“This moment of training is very important. These are agents who already make up the Municipal Guard and this provides experience in the city, in preventive work. With the increase in the role, with overt and preventive policing and the use of firearms, there is a need for additional training, with techniques for approaching with firearms, firing firearms, police defense techniques. I am very satisfied with the training, we have seen a significant evolution in the performance of officers agents”, said the general director of the Municipal Force, Brenno Carnevale.
Life insurance
Rio city hall has already published in the Official Gazette authorization to open a tender for the provision of group life and personal accident insurance services for up to 2,100 active agents of the Municipal Force.
“This agent who takes to the streets, as happens with civil and military police officers, to fight crime, who starts to carry weapons and face difficult situations in a city with the characteristics of Rio, has to be protected by the State. He has to have a good salary, good equipment and also these comforts. Life insurance. This is a service that demands a permanent risk to his life”, said Eduardo Paes.
