Elisa Suárez, president of Apede: ‘We have a decrease in the workforce and a huge informality’

The president of the Panamanian Association of Business Executives (Apede), Elisa Suárez, referred this Wednesday to the meeting held on Tuesday afternoon with the ministers of Health, Commerce and Industries and the ATP to analyze issues related to trade, the economy and the Covid-19 pandemic.

He expressed that, during the meeting, the measures that were discussed basically deal with resuming biosecurity measures and reducing massive activities. “Thank God there has been no talk of other types of restrictions. If we have to close again, what do you put after the icing on the cake? That would be very delicate, “he said.

Faced with these possible restrictions, which have not been announced by the Government, Suárez affirmed that we have a decrease in the labor force and a huge informality, so that also represents a restriction of the productive system.

“We are studying the situation that is occurring every day and that is why it was so important for us what was going to happen yesterday (Tuesday) in the meeting that was scheduled with the Minister of Health,” he commented.

He highlighted that there are activities where there cannot be differentiated hours, for example, the construction sector has to enter early in the morning, since by municipal decrees it is not possible to work after 6:00 pm due to noise effects.
