SAN LUIS POTOSÍ, Mexico.- The young singer Elioveliz Perez Romeroknown as “the Cuban José José” due to the similarity of his voice with that of the Mexican singer, has taken a decisive step in his musical career and has decided to settle in Mexico, as he confessed to the news channel Telemundo 51.

In Mexico, where he has already performed in important theaters such as the National Auditorium and venues in Jalisco, he is living his dream, the young singer said: “I am still hallucinating and I think that what is happening to me is a dream.”

In an interview with Telemundo 51said that he lives in Mexico City, the country’s capital, and hopes to win the hearts of the public from there and undertake new projects.

“I was inspired to leave Cuba not only to grow my career but also to give my family a good life,” he told the outlet.

“I woke up in Cuba and the next day I was in another country and then I performed at the national auditorium. That was through a BNB convention where there were many artists, record labels, managers and I sang two songs, including ‘El Triste’,” she said.

However, emigration has meant separating from her mother and putting distance between them, a situation that has not been easy for her.

“I have never been separated from my mother and I think it is one of the hardest things I have had to do, it must be the same for her. It is hard, but we both know that this is God’s plan, a purpose and I think that in the end, at the end of the storm there is always a rainbow and I hope to soon have her here with me and for her to enjoy all these beautiful things that there are in Mexico,” he said.

Hoping to release an album in the near future and tour Mexico, the new prince of Cuban music said he is ready to move forward.

On his social media, he also announced that he will soon be able to meet the public in the Dominican Republic, as part of a tour.

The young prince

The appearance on social media of 22-year-old Cuban Elioveliz Pérez Romero caused astonishment and nostalgia due to the incredible similarity of his voice to that of the interpreter of “La Nave del Olvido”. His vocal range and color, harmonies and passionate interpretations make him a musical clone of the late artist. That is why he is nicknamed “the Cuban José José”.

Elio’s mother, as his family and friends from the Versalles neighborhood in La Lisa, where he lived in Cuba, call him, had a lot to do with the young singer’s inclination towards romantic music, and especially that of José José. It all began at the age of five or six. At that time, he recalled, his mother did housework listening to songs like “Gavilán o Paloma” and “El Triste.”

Years later, life would bring him an unexpected turn, after playing in social networks some of the songs popularized by the Mexican singer.

He no longer just sings José José’s songs, but is also working on creating his own label.

“In the short term I would like to improve as a singer, study music and perfect my vocal technique. And in the long term, what every artist would want: to be on big stages, for my music to be recognized internationally and to have an unconditional audience that supports me at all times,” he told CubaNet.
