From today, Saturday April 30, the lawyer Eliana Revollar Añaños assumes the functions of Ombudsman until the appointment of a new holder for said position by the Congress of the Republic, after the resignation presented last Wednesday by Walter Gutiérrez.
Through resolution 005-2022-DP, it is highlighted that Revollar Añaños would assume the position from this April 30. In addition, he “will enjoy the immunity and prerogatives provided for in article 161 of the Constitution and will exercise all the powers and powers conferred by it, as well as by the Organic Law of the Ombudsman.”
Revollar was already working at the Ombudsman’s Office as Deputy Defender of Women’s Rights.
Studies and career
Eliana Revollar is a lawyer graduated from the San Cristóbal de Huamanga University, a Master in Human Rights Protection from the Alcalá de Henares University in Spain, and in Public Policy from the Carlos III University in Spain, with the collaboration of the Government Institute of San Martin de Porres University.
She is also a graduate of the master’s degree in Political Science, with a mention in Public Policies and Civil Society from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru.
She is coordinator of the Andean region of the Gender Network of the Ibero-American Federation of Ombudsman (FIO) that integrates Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Bolivia and Peru, since November 2019.
He has worked at the Ombudsman’s Office since 1997, where he began work at the Ayacucho and Junín offices. In 2006 he directed the Lima office, then he assumed the leadership of the Territorial Coordination Directorate.
Since 2017 she was attached for Women’s Rights. She assumed the First Deputyship in March 2022.
Congress elects Ombudsman
At the beginning of this month, the plenary session of the Congress of the Republic ratified the agreement of the Board of Spokespersons for the immediate formation of a special commission for the election of the next Ombudsmanwho will replace Walter Gutiérrez Camacho, who has held the position since September 6, 2016 and whose term should last five years.
The working group is made up of the head of Parliament and the spokespersons of the different benches.
