The characteristics of the consumption of Peruvians through Internet purchases in 2022 were recorded on the platforms of electronic commerce and one of them, Mercado Libre, issued a report disclosing these details. What were the consumption trends of Peruvians?
In Peru, the cell phones were the best-selling products, followed by masks. In addition, in the month of October sales of World Cup figurine packs increased, driven by the World Cup in Qatar.

On the other hand, it was observed that the category that presented the greatest growth in turnover compared to the previous year was footwear with 80%, followed by supplements with 70%. In addition, the cell phones and televisions category experienced a 60% increase.
“We are convinced that, in Peru, as in the region, the opportunity for e-commerce penetration continues to be enormous. The pandemic was an accelerator of this penetration locally, but there is still a great opportunity for growth. And this growth is also transferred to the thousands of SMEs that develop thanks to their online sales”, commented Pedro White, country head at Mercado Libre Peru.
The best-selling products in Latin America
At the regional level the category ‘Auto parts’ led the podium among Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Uruguay, Colombia and Peru with a 33.8% growth in billing versus the previous year.
The study shows similar trends in all countries during the year: the first months of 2022 with a strong sales volume of masks, due to the increase in Coronavirus cases in that period of the year; and towards the last quarter, the World Cup figurines as the most chosen products. Throughout the year, the “Mass Consumption & Food” and “Home Appliances & Electronics” categories also maintained a high level of sales in all markets.
