Bajan pérdidas sector eléctrico a 18% en enero-marzo 2022

Electricity sector losses fall to 18% in January-March 2022

The losses of electricity distributors in the first quarter of this year dropped to 28%well below the goal, reported yesterday the executive vice president of the Unified Council of Electricity Distribution Companies, Andres Astacio.

He explained that of the three electricity distribution companies (Ede), Edeeste closed the first quarter at 39%, Edesur 24% and Edenorte at 20%.

He pointed out that Edeeste’s high percentage of loss is due to the fact that its concession area covers most of the poor neighborhoods of Greater Santo Domingo.

He stressed that in the first quarter of last year losses reached 52%for which Edeeste is the one that registers the greatest pronounced improvement in the period January-March 2022.

He stated that Edeeste has the worst commercial infrastructure of the three distributors.

The goal for this year, he said, is to close the losses of electricity distributors below 30%. He remembered that last year closed at 32.5%.

“We are looking for sources of financing to increase investments, but so far we plan to make investments of US$350 million to reduce losses,” he said.

He considered that the impact of the increase in fuel prices has been quite strong in the distribution sector. He gave as an example that natural gas costs twice as much as last year.

Edeeste adds that another of the actions that has helped the loss reduction is the detection of 1,546 users with installed transformers of illegal way in their homes.

Of these, 691 have been normalized and the rest are in the process of being dismantled and managed by the Deputy Attorney General for the Electric System (PGASE).

Electricity rate will increase 9% in the April-June quarter

As part of “Electric Pact”the clients of the Electricity Distribution Companies from the south (Edesur); from North (Edenonorth) and this (Edeeast), must pay 9% more in their electricity rate.

The electricity rate increase that will directly impact residential customers, is contained in the resolution SIE-021-2022-TF of the Superintendence of Electricity (SIE).
