The director of Fire brigade of the National District, General José Luis Frómeta Herasme, called on the citizens to take greater precautions during the holiday season due to the fires linked to the improper use of decorative lights, extensions and improvised connections.
Frometa explained to Free Diary that in the National District “87% of fires are caused by electricity“.
He recalled that every year the fires caused by small trees and christmas decorationsso he insisted that the electrical installation must be carried out by trained people and using certified extensionscapable of supporting the required load.
“That the person who is going to do the electrical work can measure the consumption of these extensions to avoid high consumption, overheating and also a short circuit from occurring,” he said.
He also indicated that every installation must have the protection systems suitable. “In every house, when an electrician works, a person who has the knowledge places some breakerswhich are protections so that, if there is any inconvenience, the breakers are triggered,” he said.
Likewise, he recommended extinguishing the trees and the lights when leaving from home, since overheating in the connections can start a fire in a matter of minutes.
Fires vehicular
Frometa Herasme also referred to the recent fires of vehicles registered on streets of the National District. He explained that many of these cases are related to the installation of electrical accessoriesas music systemsadditional lights or equipment not included by the manufacturers.
“There are some people who add lights and countless accessories to vehicles. This must also be done by a person who has the skills, so that, if you are going to install an accessory, the wires that the vehicle has can support it. The manufacturers design in a way… if you want to put some accessories on them, know how to do it,” he said.
He pointed out that the bad facilities generate overload and heating in power lines, which can trigger moving fires.
He reiterated that the main cause of fires in it National District is still the electricityboth in homes and in commercial establishments, workshops and automobiles, which is why he urged the population to review and correct any defective installation.
