Electricity in Havana returns after fire in tallapiedra, but the blackouts continue this Sunday

The municipalities of Havana affected by a Fire on Saturday at the Tallapiedra substation They recovered electricity at dawn this Sunday, but the blackouts will continue throughout the island due to generation deficit.

The electrical service was restored shortly after midnight in the 20 circuits affected in the capital of the island, located in the municipalities of Havana Vieja, Centro Habana, Plaza, Cerro and Ten of October, confirmed The Havana company.

However, the entity explained that the works continued in the place.

Beyond this incident, the generation remained again below the demand, although at least for about four hours “the affectation was closed,” according to Electric union (UNE). The maximum affectation had been 1588 MW at 8:00 at night.

Already at 6:34 am today the blackouts returned and half an hour later the affectation was 170 MW. By noon, the official estimate amounted to 700 MW, while for the night peak that figure will double up to 1440 MW.

This morning did not generate six thermal units due to breakdowns or maintenance, of which the 1st of Santa Cruz del Norte has planned its reinstatement with 70 MW during the peak schedule.

In addition, 82 distributed generation plants were out due to lack of fuel, which represents a decrease of 564 MW, while 178 MW are indispensable due to lack of lubricants and another 391 MW due to thermal limitations, the UNE details.

With this, and despite the presumable contribution of the eight new solar parks – which yesterday taxed 979.9 MWh throughout the day – this Sunday promises to be another day of long blackouts in Cuba, something sadly common already in the midst of the current energy crisis on the island.
