Electricity consumption increased by 7.2% in November

The demand for electricity in November reached 11,319.3 gigavarious hours (GWh) and registered a year-on-year increase of 7.2%, after two months of falls, the Foundation for Electricity Development (Fundelec) reported on Thursday.

The entity highlighted that the increase occurred in a month “with higher temperatures compared to the previous year” and that in the case of the Metropolitan Area of ​​Buenos Aires (AMBA) the rise was 9.7%.

Consumption rose 10.8% compared to October levels and, in addition, a maximum power of 26,610 megawatts (MW) was registered on November 29 at 2:12 p.m., close to the record of 28,231 MW in January of this year.

Residential demand reached 44% of the total country with a rise of 12% compared to the same month of the previous year, while commercial demand rose 4.5%, accounting for 28% of total consumption, and industrial demand reflected another 28%. with a rise in the month of the order of 2.4%.

There were decreases in five provinces: Misiones (-25%), Formosa (-8%), Corrientes (-5%), Santa Cruz (-4%) and Chaco (-1%).

For his part, 22 provinces and companies presented increases in consumption: Chubut (26%), Santiago del Estero (21%), Tucumán (15%), San Juan (13%), La Pampa (12%), Catamarca (11%), Córdoba (11%), Salta (11%), San Luis (10%), EDEN (10%), La Rioja (10%), Santa Fe (9%), Edelap (9%), Jujuy (8%) , Neuquén (6%), Mendoza (6%), Entre Ríos (5%), EDES (3%), EDEA (3%), Río Negro (2%), among others.

Regarding the detail of the AMBA distributors, which demanded 31% of the country’s consumption and totaled a joint rise of 9.7%, Edenor had a rise of 10%, while in Edesur the demand rose by 9, 4%, while in the rest of the country the increase was 6.7%.

Hydraulic generation was in the order of 3,700 GWh against 2,070 GWh in the same period of the previous year, which represents a positive variation of 78%, in an improvement in which “an increase in flows is observed compared to the same month of the previous year in Comahue and mainly in the Uruguay and Paraná rivers, the latter surpassing historical values ​​for the period,” Fundelec said in a statement.

There were no large variations in alternative fuels as a whole, while lower consumption was observed in natural gas.

In this way, in November thermal generation continued to lead widely with a production contribution of 52.38% of the requirements, hydroelectric plants contributed 31.06% of demand, nuclear plants provided 0.29%, and generators from alternative sources accounted for 13.99% of the total, while imports represented 2.27% of the demand.
