The energy mining union explained that last year a total of 64 companies participated in the electricity generation activity of the National Interconnected Electrical System (SEIN). The electric generators with the greatest participation were Kallpa, Orygen Peru and Engie.
On the other hand, he informed that the main sources of generation in Peru are hydraulic and thermal (natural gas, diesel, coal, residual, biomass-base and biogas). Both together represented 91% of SEIN production in 2024. The remaining 9% was generated with unconventional energy resources (wind and solar).
In that sense, he explained that the hydraulic generation recorded an 11% growth compared to 2023 (2,947 GWh more) for the greater production of the Cerro del Águila hydroelectric plant (700 GWh more), CH Mantaro (570 GWh more) and CH CHAGLLA (246 GWh more).
For its part, the thermoelectric plant was reduced by 12% (3,178 GWh less) for the lower production of Chilca 1 thermal plants (658 GWh less, Kallpa (356 GWh less) and window (323 GWh less).
As for wind generation, in the period January to December 2024 it grew by 66% for the greater production of the San Juan de Marcona (557 GWh more), Wayra (497 GWh more) and Punta Lomitas (352 GWh more) .
