In the middle of an aggravation of the Energy crisis in Cubathe Government promised on Wednesday an improvement in the next few days, but warned that there will continue to be “a high deficit.”
The key to this alleged improvement must be – according to the authorities – the next entry of Unit 1 of the Felton’s thermoelectric plant, whose Disconnection at the beginning of September exacerbated the weakness already existing in the National Electrical System (SEN).
With that block outside there was a new fall of SEN last week – the fifth in less than a year – after which a peak of blackouts has been maintained that had its climax this Tuesday. Then there was a maximum affectation of 2052 MW – only 2 MW of the Historical negative record of July 21– also driven by the output of other generating plants.
Submitted to a maintenance initially planned for 20 days, Felton 1 must be incorporated this weekend, as announced by the minister of the sector, Vicente de la O Levy, in statements to the press reviewed For the newspaper Granma.
After the return of that unit, “the most critical situation must improve; which means returning to the values of effects we had before their departure,” said the head of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minen), who said that, however, the effects will continue to be high.
“Improves, but there is a high deficit yet,” said the O Levy, while estimating that “with the generation that is currently and solar parks, the effects can be reduced again per day, less than 1000 MW.”
Other entries and fuel situation
The minister also assured that the breakdown that affected the site of Fuel del Mariel engines was already resolved, and between the remainder of September and October other thermal units must be incorporated.
In that period, he explained, an adjustment must be concluded in Renté 5, which “has shown unstable behavior” after months of maintenance. In addition, Céspedes 4 – ”must synchronize a very reliable unit for the operation of the system” -, and Unit 2 of Santa Cruz del Norte, in repairs for a year.
However, at the same time, it recognized that difficulties are maintained with fuel and lubricants for distributed generation, even when the situation has not been critical in this regard, according to review Granma.
“It does not mean that the fuel is stable,” said O Levy, who admitted that the situation with financing for these products remains “extremely tense.”
Precisely about the lack of liquidity to make the necessary payments, the head of the Minen confirmed that this was the cause of the departure of the majority of the Turkish patanas that came to be in the country and of which there are now only two left.
“All the people of Cuba know, because it is intelligent, that the cause (of the departure of the patanas) is that it could not be paid,” he said.
This Thursday
Beyond the explanations and promises of the minister, the blackouts will continue to hit the Cubans this Thursday.
At 6:00 am the deficit was 1180 MW, but for noon The estimate of the electric union (UNE) ascends to 1450 MW. For others, in the night peak the maximum expected affectation is 1830 MW, minimally less than the 1885 MW yesterday.
However, so that it is, 100 of the 257 MW that are out in the generation distributed due to lack of fuel, and also unit 5 of the News thermoelectric, one of the seven thermal blocks disconnected this morning must be incorporated.
Similarly, for the official estimated to be fulfilled, no other breakage should occur in a generating plant. Nor should the thermal limitations – set in 401 MW – increase, nor upload the predicted demand, which for the night peak must be 3450 MW, according to the UNE.
