The number of fatal victims for reasons of electric accidents increased by 2024, even in a scenario where there was a drop in the total number of this type of accident. Throughout the year, 257 people died as a result of accidents with electricity, according to a survey by Brazilian Association of Electricity Distributors (Abradee).
In the previous year (2023), electric accidents led to the lives of 250 people. Regarding the total number of occurrences was in 782. Lowed to 685 by 2024. This is the lowest record in eight years.
“The reduction of occurrences (for 685 accidents with electricity) by 2024 indicates advances in prevention actions,” explains resident of Abradee, Marcos Madureira.
According to the survey, among the main causes of accidents are building works, clandestine connections, cable theft, agricultural equipment handling near the network, as well as ground -energized cables and improvisations in household installations.
Death
Regarding the increase in the number of deaths (from 250 to 257), this indicates, according to him, that even with fewer accidents, the risks remain high, when it comes to electricity.
“These occurrences may be related to factors such as lack of technical knowledge for correct risk analysis, improvisations in electrical installations or absence of adequate protection equipment,” he added.
Red August
For Marcos Madureira, this scenario reinforces the need to expand the security culture“Taking quality information to the entire population and intensifying educational campaigns that can save lives, such as the Red August Campaign” – which is in its third edition.
THE campaign has, among its objectives, to function as a milestone of national mobilization around the risks with the electricity gridwithin the 19th National Security Campaign with the power grid, which has, as a motto, the ZERO ACCIDENTS MOVEMENT.
Civil construction
According to Abradee, the This year’s campaign It will prioritize the construction sector, which leads the number of occurrences in the country. In August is the first edition of an online workshop aimed at tips to construction professionals.
“The ‘Safety Aulão’ will be available on the association’s YouTube channel and will be attended by safety experts for associated energy distributors and construction sector influencers, as well as Abradee,” said the association.
