Fighting day to day, the citizen does not have time to attend to the fight of dinosaurs that takes place in the heights. What he does perceive, more by instinct than by rigorous analysis, is that unless the opposition achieves some formula that empathizes with the electorate in sufficient volume, the country will continue to be governed by the same party sign that by mid-2023 will have governed for 28 of the 33 years of life in democracy.
The dialectical guerrilla, the exchange of accusations, the mutual imputation of major or minor crimes keep the electoral campaign on the usual contentious ground. The best-looking candidates to fight for the presidency and Congress for the 2023-2028 period are so predictable that almost no one takes note of them. And that is serious, because it is with that indifference, tiredness or fed up of the citizenry that the caste of politicians in the race counts on to close their circuit.
All contenders, without exception, are cut from the same cloth. With the primaries settled and the candidates defined, yesterday’s adversaries are today’s allies, united for the assault on the biggest prize, the administration of the State, the takeover of its most profitable offices and, above all, to throw down the gauntlet without hindrance to power real that brings inextricably attached to the “business grip”, the handle of big business. The incomparable Quino resolved this Anglicism with an expression of Miguelito, Mafalda’s friend, when, referring to the President, he exclaimed: “What it is to have the lollipop by the stick!”.
Today there are many diners but few have chairs at the banquet. The polls, no matter how deteriorated their credibility may be, are pointing to a horizon with few surprises. It is increasingly clear that the colorados are going to vote aligned, if necessary, for Donald Duck (copyright Luis María Argaña). On the other side, it will be seen if the Liberals go in search of their feat the hard way, at the expense and risk of their own color, or they will try again the Galician empanada that in 2018 was blowing the neck of their adversary in dangerous approach.
But we repeat, the common citizen, in his daily square meter, does not have time to waste it in such twisted disquisitions.
He expects results, numbers that he can understand from his pocket and from his hopes for a better country.
