Electoral Court issues resolution that formalizes the number of signatures for independents

The Electoral Court (TE) issued Resolution 101 with 2% of the valid votes cast in the last election for the position and constituency in question, corresponding to the minimum number of supporting signatures that the pre-candidates for free postulation.

Candidates who aspire to a popular election position by free application need 2% of the valid votes in the 2019 elections.

The valid votes for President of the Republic were 1,964,777 and 2% are 39,296.

Article 365 of the Electoral Code states that in the case of free nomination candidates, the members of the three lists that have obtained the most supporting signatures will be nominated as candidates, provided that they exceed 2% of the valid votes cast in the last election. for the position and circumspection in question.

The Electoral Organization published the signatures required for the candidates for free application before August 15, when the process of collecting signatures begins.

In the cases of constituencies that have been segregated and that also affect the constituency from which they come, the valid votes cast in the voting centers are considered, as they were located in the respective constituencies.

In the cases of corregimientos that have been left without voters as a result of the previous one and a subsequent voting center has been created, the number of valid votes of the voting center used by the majority of the voters to cast their vote will be used.
