In the city of Buenos Aires, as in 11 other provinces, Brazilians cast their votes in the contest between Lula Da Silva and Jair Bolsonaro for the mandate of Brazil.
The brazilian community, mainly in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (CABA), turned out en masse to cast their vote. The list of people eligible to vote was more than 12,000 throughout the country. The landscape was mainly red shirts representative of the Partido de los Trabajadores (PT in Brazil) of daSilva.
The headquarters of the embassy of Brazil in our territory, located at Cerrito 1350, in CABA, was the biggest center of attention for voters who had to line up 100 meters to vote for the president of the country neighbour.
The diplomatic headquarters was open for Brazilians who live in CABA, the interior of Buenos Aires and the provinces of Chaco, Formosa, Entre Ríos, Santa Fe, La Pampa, Neuquén, Río Negro, Chubut, Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fire.
In turn, the consulate of the city of Córdoba received voters from that province and in addition to Jujuy, Catamarca, La Rioja, Tucumán and Santiago del Estero. Lastly, the residents of that province and those of San Juan and San Luis went to the Mendoza consulate.
Voting Results
Lula Da Silva managed to get ahead of his opponent and current president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro. With more than 98% of the tables counted, the leader of the Workers’ Party (PT) surpassed the far-right president by more than four points.
48% of the votes went to the winner Da Silva, while Bolsonaro reached 43%.
Despite the victory, the difference of 10 points to win in the first round was not achieved, reason why the Electoral Tribunal confirmed the ballot for October 30.
The president of our country, Alberto Fernández, celebrated Lula’s victory on Twitter.
In the words of the Secretary of Industry and Productive Development, José Ignacio de Mendigurem: “With Lula we will be able to advance, with Bolsonaro, no.. It is convenient for Argentina that Brazil grows, because when Brazil grows, it leads us to that growth. Brazil is the world’s second largest producer of iron and in Argentina we have the largest lithium reserve in the world, we are united in a regional integration”.
