He National Election Jury (JNE) He recalled that next Monday, October 13, the deadline for senior officials who intend to be candidates in the General elections of April 2026 give up their positions.
The regulation of this measure is contained in resolution 0110-2025-JNE that occurred last March and also requires the mechanisms and deadlines for the without enjoyment of other officials and state workers.
As recalled, the senior officials who intend to apply for the presidency and vice presidencies of the Republic, Bicameral Congress and Andean Parliament must renounce their positions six months before the election.
Among these officials are the President of the Republic, ministers and vice ministers of State, governors and regional vice governors and the mayors.
In the case of the governors, for example, the resignation must be presented before the Regional Council and the position to the JNE, through the Virtual Party Table (MPV) until October 20, 2025, immediately assuming, in its replacement, the Vice Governor. If both authorities give up, the Regional Council will choose its replacements.
Meanwhile, the mayors have to present their resignation before the respective council and the position to the Virtual Parties table of the electoral body, also until October 20, as in the previous case. The bourgeoisiestre in charge must request the respective credential from the JNE, within a period not exceeding 10 business days, counted from the delivery of the resignation.
Also the members of the Armed Forces and the National Police who choose to participate and who must move on to the retirement situation at that same date.
The aforementioned resolution of the maximum electoral body also specifies that the workers and officials of the public powers and agencies and companies that aspire to apply in the general elections must request licenses without enjoyment of having before the institutions in which they work “expressly mentioning that it must be granted from the first February 11, 2026”, that is 60 days before the elections.
